The word “nasya” denotes administration of drugs through nasa (nose). The nose is the door to the consciousness and the prana. ‘Nasya’ is a treatment method in which substances like medicated oils, juices of raw herbs or powder etc. are administered in prescribed doses through the nostrils. The nose remains open throughout and it gets effected by the external pathogenic factors which create troubles for a normal health condition. Cleansing this message on a regular basis is vital for optimal physical and mental health. It is one of the panchkarma procedures, to help detox and rejuvenate the body (specially the body parts above the neck).
Depending on different types of imbalances in different patients, there are different types of ‘nasya’. Its material is chosen by the physician evaluating the body constitution, the state of balance of the doshas and the prevailing phase of any pathology. This procedure is to be carried out by utmost care.
Patient needs to lie down on flat surface tilt her head back, then the medicine is administered through nostrils and the patient needs to remain in that condition for sometime before leaving.
